Lancome Summer 2014 Collection - Golden Summer

I absolutely love seeing new releases for Summer, it sounds to strange but for me a beautiful piece of make up could make me feel like I am far away, on a tropical island! The Clarins Colours of Brazil collection took my breath away. Then along come Lancome with their Golden Summer collection. Lancome never fail to disappoint me, actually! The beautiful press images got me so excited for summer (and holidays!). I was very kindly sent two items from the Golden Summer collection to review.

The Star Bronzer brush is just phenomenal. I do not have a decent bronzer brush in my collection, actually. Up until now I had been using my Real Techniques powder brush, but there is absolutely no comparison here! The Lancome Star Bronzer brush is so big and fluffy. The bristles are so soft and feels divine on the face. It is tapered at one side and is absolutely perfect at dispersing the right amount of product on the face. I don't think I have ever felt a brush as soft as this! So beautiful.

This is the nail polish in "Golden Riviera". It is a very soft gold, almost a pewter colour. You can see there is a small amount of shimmer in there. When I applied this, I was stunned by the finish of this polish. It dried exceptionally fast, and when dry I realised that this is a matte polish, with shimmer. I know, that doesn't even make sense! But it feels so smooth on the nail, and not like a regular glossy type polish. It looks so unusual! This polish is gorgeous for summer, and would look amazing with a tan!

Also in the collection is this fabulous bronzer and beautiful blue nail polishes, which I think will be highly sought after. They will be available from July 2nd, definitely a collection to watch out for!

The Beauty Sale by Clarins

As soon as the Clarins sale went live I was all over it! Now I was very good, and only bought one thing. I could have bought so much more but I was able to restrain myself! If you haven't checked out the Clarins sale yet, then I suggest you should.

I bought the Cleansing Collection for Normal/Dry skin, which was reduced to an amazing £16.00. (The cleanser to buy alone is £20.00). I know I will like this, I have used the cleanser before and it is my favourite one. I cannot wait to try the Toner and Gentle Refiner! It comes with a lovely case too which would be good to use for travelling.

With every order, Clarins.co.uk allow you to select three free samples - I chose two of the self tanners because I have been dying to try them out, particularly the Delicious Self Tanning Cream! I also chose a sample of the Instant Eye Make Up Remover, which is a staple in my skincare routine now and it's handy to have teeny bottles like this to keep for travelling!

So you do you see anything you like in the sale?

Updated - My Hair Care Routine!

I've been paying close attention to my hair in recent weeks - I had my hair lightened a bit which of course can compromise the condition of your hair. I really love the lighter bits through my hair, I feel like it gives it so much depth and it looks so different  to how it was before (to me, anyway!).

I've been trying out the new John Frieda Luxurious Volume shampoo and conditioner*, and so far I really like them. I love the smell of these! It sounds strange but I like using shampoos which are "clear", I think they are probably the best to use on your hair. I read somewhere a long time ago that shampoos which have colour have more chemicals in them, so that's why I like clear ones. Also, I really like shampoos and conditioners which come in tubes like these. They are just so much easier to use while in the shower. I do like to try a shampoo and conditioner for a good couple of months, so perhaps I will do a full review on these when I have tried them properly.

So, when my hair is wet I so desperately need my Mane n' Tail Detangler! My hair gets super super tatty and the only thing that remedies that is this Detangler. It's probably the best hair product I have ever used! I have also tried their shampoos and conditioners (and used them on my dog too!) and they are excellent as well!

I still use the Schwartzkopf Colour Freeze heat protector. I squeeze out a little blob, rub my hands together and smooth it through my hair. It's a cream, with  a very light texture and it doesn't leave any sticky residue or anything in my hair.

I have been curling my hair a lot lately with my Remington Pearl Curling Wand. I have worked out a system where I can curl my hair with it in about 5 minutes. I just wrap huge sections of my hair around the wand, and I get a loose, wavy tousled effect like in the photo above.

My hairdresser recommended this L'Oreal Wild Stylers Next Day Hair spray. I think if you are wearing your hair curly, this will compliment it perfectly. It's kind of a cross between dry shampoo and volumising dust. I spray it in the mid lengths and ends of my hair, and brush through my hair with my fingers. I have heard that other texturising sprays like this can make the hair feel sticky or crunchy, but this one most definitely does not! It creates so much volume when I wear my hair curly, and leaves just enough texture so that you could easily style your hair into an up-do.

Next on my wish list is a L'Oreal Steam Pod! I want one so badly, it is amazing for straightening and curling the hair, and it is probably the heated hair tool which is actually kindest to the hair, using steam rather than ceramic plates.

Are there any hair products I am not using that I should be using?

Sun care with La Roche Posay!

So a mini-heatwave is upon us (finally!). The sunnier weather of course means that we need to be super careful with our skin. I am not one for sun bathing but even if you are like me, and just happen to be occasionally out and about in the sun, and take to sitting in the shade, I still think it's important to make sure I have plenty of sun protection on!

I chose to buy some La Roche Posay sun care products, as I have read many a blogger's rave reviews on them. I will always choose the highest SPF possible, so in this case I got the Anthelios XL 50+, face cream and sun cream spray.

I will start with the face cream. It is quite a thick cream. It blends into the skin easily but I do feel like it leaves a greasy layer on the face. I wanted to use this face cream under my make up, but it hasn't been sitting very well over it, so for me it loses points for that. If you are not intending to wear make up then you cannot go wrong with this cream.
(Actually I got a sample of the Clarins SPF 50 face cream, which is a much lighter cream and does not feel greasy, and make up sits perfectly over it. Perhaps I should have got the full size of that.)
I will still use this La Roche Posay face cream of course, because I want plenty of protection on my face. It's just a matter of trial and error to see what makeup suits it best. So far, my Clarins tinted moisturiser has been working well with it, so I think I will have to stick with that and stay away from foundations!

The Anthelios 50+ spray is amazing! The texture is so much lighter, and non-greasy. It is the least stickiest sun cream I have ever used. I believe that this one is also much kinder on fake tans, which is great news for me! I absolutely love the slimline bottle and handy spray, which is going to be perfect when I head off on my holidays.

What sun creams have you been using lately? Any recommendations?

*new* Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Multi-Correcting Cream

Lancome's latest innovation - a cream version of their fab Visionnaire serum. I remember last year, I was given little samples as a gift with purchase, and I received a tiny bottle of Genefique and Visionnaire. I know lots of people rave about Genefique, but honestly that little sample of Visionnaire made such a difference to my skin, it was unreal.

I suppose I am rather lazy about my skincare routine, it's all about cleansing and moisturising with me. Anything extra, such as applying serum, is too much effort for me! So this little pot of Visionnaire cream is amazing, in that I have been using it as my daily moisturiser and seeing the effects of a serum.

I would say that you would need to be using something like this for a good 6 months or so, but let me tell you that even after just 3 weeks of use, I am seeing the benefits!

The texture of this cream is very unusual. It is lightweight, almost gel like. It's not oily or greasy in any way. It is very creamy and smooth and blends into the skin beautifully. It smells gorgeous too, the scent is that of pure luxury and reminds me of a lovely day spa.

Even after just one week, my skin was noticeably brighter and I looked almost glowing! My skin just looks and feels so healthy. I am lucky in that I do not have any major skin issues. My skin is pretty normal - I don't suffer from oiliness, dryness, redness or anything really, but my major battle has always been dullness. What this cream has done to brighten up my skin is nothing short of astounding. Even the expression lines around my eyes appear reduced!

Visionnaire can target anything from wrinkles, pores and dullness, and injects youth and vitality into the skin.

If you are in the market for a new moisturiser, I couldn't recommend this highly enough. It's definitely a luxury product - however after trying it even for just a few weeks, I would say that the results genuinely speak for themselves. I don't think I have ever been this happy with my skin!

NYX has arrived! My first impressions

Good news! The US invasion continues with the arrival of NYX in Ireland. NYX is a brand I have been so eager to try, I had mentally made a wish list of things I wanted if I should ever visit the States again.
I was so lucky to be sent this great selection of NYX things to try. I have been playing around with all of these items all week and now I am here to let you know my first impressions of the brand.

NYX Butter Gloss in "Peaches and Cream" and Lip Smacking Fun Colours Lipstick in "Indian Pink"
I love the packaging of these lip products, but I love what is inside even more! The lipstick looks absolutely beautiful, this colour is just gorgeous. It is lovely, soft and creamy to wear. It is quite a glossy lipstick though so it doesn't have the best staying power. But I can't get enough of this colour!

The Butter Gloss is just something else! I was so in love with my Tanya Burr glosses, but I think that NYX has totally taken over. Firstly, they smell delicious, like vanilla. They are super pigmented, they are very silky soft in consistency and are much creamier than the Tanya Burr glosses. They feel just a little tacky on your lips, not completely sticky like normal glosses. I love it!

Jumbo Eye Pencil in "Rust", Auto Eyebrow Pencil in "medium brown", Eye/Eyebrow Pencil in "Sea Foam Green", Skinny Black Liner

I had a lot of fun with these eye pencils. The Jumbo Eye Pencil is fabulous, it's so easy to use & I definitely want to collect all of the shades! I think this colour would look great layered with MAC Cranberry eyeshadow.

The brow pencil is amazing! I am not one for fancy brow palettes, mascaras or waxes. I'm just happy enough with a brow pencil and this one is great. Initially when I swatched it I thought it was a very red toned brown, but it suits me with my hair colour perfectly. It's a brilliant twist up crayon with a lovely soft brush on the other end. It's the best eyebrow pencil I've ever used.

The green eye pencil is such a gorgeous colour! I don't think I would use it on my eyebrows (ha ha!) but it looks great on the lower waterline. My only problem is, my eyes are quite watery, so I find I really have to work with the pencil to get it on my eye and to get it to stay on!

Skinny Black Liner, where have you been all my life! I used to line my eyes with black pencil all the time, before gel eyeliners were en vogue! But I have never been able to use a pencil liner with such precision as this. Again it is a twist up crayon type, it is extremely black and stays put all day long! It's perfect for me in the mornings rushing out to work!

Love in Paris eyeshadow palette in "C'est la Vie"

And now the beautiful eyeshadow palette. The shades in here are just stunning, there is not a single shade in here that I would not use! Lovely neutrals - and I love to see a couple of green shadows in an eye palette! This is the product that surprised me the most. The eyeshadows are incredible - by far the best of any budget brand I have ever tried. I had the tiniest amount of fallout when applying them - but they have stayed put all day on me (I always use my trusty ArtDeco eye primer) and have not creased on me at all. In fact, at the end of each day they still look as good as though I have just applied them! These eyeshadows have by far exceeded my expectations and I would be eager to build my eyeshadow collection with them.

If you can find a NYX stockist near you, I suggest you try out this brand! Their products are beautiful, fun and practical, and even better they will not break the bank. I think my favourite item has been the Butter Gloss, I adore the texture of it and the smell!

Let me know if there are other NYX products which I must try!

Holiday prep!

I am not the only one who starts packing for a holiday freakishly early, am I? Well over the last few weeks I have been picking up little bits and bobs. I still have a few more things to get - and still have to decide what make up I will be taking! But I think I definitely have the skincare/make up removal sorted.

I got the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL - I really like the slimline spray bottle. And I got the tube for my face. Both are SPF 50, I wouldn't use anything less to be honest.
I'm bringing a little Clarins Hydraquench moisturiser and cleansing water, and Lancome Bi-Facil eye make up remover which were all got as a gift with purchase. These are so handy to have for travelling! I'm bringing makeup wipes as well, just incase.
I've got my little toothpaste, and shampoo and conditioner. I thought the antibacterial hand wipes and stain remover wipes would be handy enough to have (plus they were only 60p in Tesco…)

So, that is one side of my soap bag filled! The other side is for make up, brushes, cotton pads, etc.

Incase you are wondering, i am heading off to Disneyland Paris in July! I really cannot wait. It seems strange that is only a few weeks away now at this stage. It's hard to know what sort of stuff to bring with me, obviously it's not a glamorous poolside holiday so who knows if I will even bother putting makeup on in the mornings!
